Mysterious drone sightings across New Jersey and the U.S. are causing speculation and concern among residents and officials. Since mid-November, drones have been reported flying over areas like the Raritan River, the Picatinny Arsenal, and even President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and law enforcement stress the drones don’t pose an immediate safety threat but are demanding federal resources and stricter regulations.
Investigations by the FBI, Homeland Security, and Pentagon suggest many sightings involve lawful aircraft, not foreign threats or military drones. However, public anxiety persists, fueled by incidents like drones closing airspace at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and shutting down runways at Stewart International Airport in New York.
Speculation ranges from foreign espionage to high-tech defense testing. Lawmakers like Rep. Chris Smith and Sen. Richard Blumenthal advocate shooting down drones to identify their origins, while others urge caution. Drone activity has also been reported near military bases in Virginia and homes in Massachusetts, with authorities actively investigating but still lacking answers.
