McDonald’s E. coli Outbreak Linked to Onions from a California Farm
Written by Site Hub on October 25, 2024
A deadly E. coli outbreak linked to fresh onions supplied by California’s Taylor Farms has affected several McDonald’s locations, leading to a recall of Quarter Pounder hamburgers in multiple states. Health officials report that the outbreak has sickened at least 49 people across 10 states, resulting in one death. Investigators suspect that slivered onions, distributed by Taylor Farms to a McDonald’s facility, are the potential source of the contamination. Other fast-food chains, including Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC, and Burger King, also pulled onions from their menus as a precaution. In response to the outbreak, U.S. Foods issued a recall for peeled, whole, and diced yellow onions from Taylor Farms’ Colorado facility. However, U.S. Foods clarified that it does not supply McDonald’s and that its recalled products do not include items sold at the fast-food chain. Taylor Farms has yet to respond to requests for comment on the incident.
