Good Samaritans step in after man accidentally runs over wife

A 74-year-old woman in Manchester, NY, was seriously injured after her husband accidentally ran over her leg while attempting to pick up family members after dinner. According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the man, also 74, thought everyone had entered the vehicle when he began driving forward, inadvertently driving over his wife’s leg. Upon realizing the mistake, he quickly reversed to remove the tire from her leg.

Several good Samaritans on the scene used a leather belt as a tourniquet to control the woman’s heavy bleeding before deputies and New York State Police arrived to assist. The woman was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Fingerlakes Ambulance. Authorities confirmed that the incident was not caused by impairment or intoxication but was an unfortunate accident due to distraction.
