New York State celebrates climate week through September 29

Written by on September 25, 2024

New York State is celebrating its 16th annual Climate Week from September 22 to 29, focusing on combating climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting environmental sustainability. Brendan Woodruff, Director of Sustainability at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), highlights that the week aims to bring together local, state, and federal partners, while also engaging New Yorkers in raising awareness about climate issues. A key event during the week is “Get There Green!”, which encourages residents to use sustainable transportation options like walking, biking, carpooling, or using public transportation. Woodruff hopes this initiative will inspire everyday New Yorkers to adopt more eco-friendly habits and continue these actions beyond Climate Week. The DEC also plans to announce new actions in the state’s ongoing fight against climate change, prioritizing clean air, water, and public health.
