New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole made his third rehab start at Innovative Field in Rochester on Friday night, striking out 10 batters in 4 ⅓ innings in front of a record-setting crowd of 13,605 fans. Cole, who has been recovering from nerve irritation and edema in his pitching elbow, allowed an unearned run on two hits with no walks, throwing 46 of 70 pitches for strikes. His fastball topped out at 97 mph.

The atmosphere at the ballpark was electric as Cole put on a show, reminiscent of past appearances by big names like Hideki Irabu and Andy Pettitte. Despite Cole’s departure in the fifth inning due to his pitch count, the Rochester Red Wings clinched a 2-1 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders with a walk-off sacrifice fly by Erick Mejia.

Cole expressed satisfaction with his performance and the support from fans, noting the special feeling of pitching in front of a packed house. He has made significant progress in his rehab, with strong outings in both Double-A and Triple-A.
