Juneteenth 2024 will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 19, with various events throughout the Greater Rochester Area. Here is a list of celebrations:
Thursday, June 13:
Genesee Country Village & Museum: June 13 to June 15, featuring history of emancipation, interpretation of the Nathaniel Rochester House, and guest speakers from the Black Storytelling League of Rochester.
Friday, June 14:
Town of Brighton: Flag raising at 12:00 p.m. at the Town Hall, honoring Dr. Walter Cooper and featuring saxophonist Jimmie Highsmith.
Finger Lakes Opera: 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, including singing, flag ministry, and poetry.
Saturday, June 15:
Rochester Juneteenth Festival: Parade 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Chestnut and Broad Streets; Festival from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Memorial Park.
Strong National Museum of Play: Free admission starting at 11 a.m., with drum circle by Womba Africa, live music, block party, and more.
Sunday, June 16:
Juneteenth Underground Railroad Bike Ride: Starts at 11 a.m. at Genesee Valley Park, a nine-and-a-half-mile ride to the Underground Railroad, meeting at the Canalside Shelter at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, June 19:
Rochester Museum & Science Center: Celebration from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Eisenhart Auditorium, featuring oratorical performances, live music, face painting, and goods from Black-owned businesses.
Roc Juneteenth 2024 5K Run/Walk: Starts at 1 p.m. at Genesee Valley Park, with proceeds benefiting the construction of the Minister Franklin D. Florence Civil Rights Heritage Park
