Worker hit and killed in manhole at Rochester gas station

On May 25, 2024, a 51-year-old worker was fatally struck while working in a manhole at a gas station located at Lyell Avenue and Mt. Read Boulevard in Rochester, NY. The incident occurred when a 45-year-old driver, who drove into the gas station parking lot around 11:30 a.m., accidentally hit the worker, who was obscured by the manhole. Police confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved. The driver is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, and no charges have been filed. The victim, identified as Michael Davis, 53, of Brighton, was identified on May 29. The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the full circumstances of the accident.
