Mayor Evans & RPD share updates on deadly violence over the weekend

Over the weekend, Rochester, New York, experienced a surge in violent crime resulting in six homicides, as reported by Mayor Evans and the Rochester Police Department (RPD). The violence began on Friday night when 54-year-old Jose Caraballo was fatally shot during a domestic altercation on Avenue D. The following day, a shooting on Lyell Avenue led to the deaths of Jared Perry, 29, and Marquis Chambers, 31, while a woman in her mid-20s was injured but survived. On Sunday, 68-year-old Jose Hernandez was stabbed to death at Winton Garden Apartment complex, with 71-year-old Raul Lazcano identified as the suspect. Another incident occurred on Monday morning with a triple shooting on Rialto Street that resulted in two fatalities and one survivor. The RPD has taken at least one suspect into custody related to these incidents, and further details are expected to be disclosed in a news conference led by Mayor Evans and RPD Chief David Smith.
