Kia, Hyundai Theft Settlement Funds Coming To New Yorkers: Are You Eligible?

Written by on March 4, 2024

New Yorkers who own or lease certain Kia and Hyundai vehicles may be eligible for a settlement due to a class action lawsuit regarding the lack of engine immobilizers, which made these vehicles easy targets for theft. Eligible models include various Kia and Hyundai vehicles ranging from 2011 to 2022. Owners of these vehicles may receive reimbursements for theft-related damages, the purchase of anti-theft devices, and software upgrades to prevent theft. Additionally, compensation is available for out-of-pocket expenses and losses incurred due to theft or attempted theft, including insurance deductibles, increased premiums, and personal property damage.

Eligible vehicle owners must submit a claim form by January 11, 2025, either online at kiatheftsettlement.com/submit-claim or hyundaitheftsettlement.com/submit-claim or by mail to the specified addresses. Required documentation includes proof of ownership and any prior reimbursements, evidence of qualifying theft or theft attempts, total losses, or the purchase/installation of anti-theft systems.

Vehicle owners also have the option to exclude themselves from or object to the settlement by May 3, 2024. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for July 15, 2024, after which payments will be made pending court approval and resolution of any appeals.
