$6.3M in State Funds to Help Monroe County Combat Gun Violence
Written by Site Hub on July 22, 2025
Monroe County will receive over $6.3 million through New York’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative to address violent crime, particularly gun violence. The Rochester Police Department, Monroe County DA’s Office, Probation Department, Sheriff’s Office, and Greece Police Department will each receive a portion to support efforts such as overtime, equipment upgrades, personnel, and training. So far in 2025, Rochester and Greece have seen reductions in shootings, injuries, and gun deaths. Statewide, GIVE communities have reported a 22% drop in shooting victims and a significant decrease in violent crime overall. Governor Hochul’s administration credits the initiative with improved public safety and stronger community responses to crime.
