A team of local businesses and organizations came together to organize the 4th Annual Easter Bike Giveaway, hosted by People’s Choice Kitchen! The participating businesses and organizations made monetary or physical contributions to the event, which aimed to gift bicycles and helmets to kids across Rochester who may not have them. President of Serve the Community, Ronald Hoff, explained why he feels this tradition is important for the folks of Rochester. “I think it’s about more than just about the bikes,” Hoff said. “It’s about all of us coming together. You see the police department, fire department, and all the various businesses coming together to make this event something for the children.” The event’s primary organizer, Evangela “Van” Stanley, who owns People’s Choice Kitchen, shared why these community leaders chose to aid in this effort. “Most of these small business owners grew up poor, and they know the feeling of growing up without bikes or getting Christmas gifts. So, everyone here donated tremendously,” Stanley said.

There were dozens of kids, ages ranging from as young as three or four, to early teens, in line to receive a free bike. It proved to be a memorable experience for each of them. “I think kindness is the best way to get blessed by God,” Rochester teen Legend Rogers said. “It’s good to know that a lot of these people are kind and care.” Those who put on the event shared that it was all worth it just to see the kids’ excitement. “Sometimes, growing up in the areas that we grew up in, we get a bike and it’s gone. But being able to do this, give back and to bring joy, seeing the joy in the children, it almost brings it brings me back to being a child again,” Hoff said. People’s Choice Kitchen is planning more community outreach events for the near future, including a potential gathering for Mother’s Day.
