Elon Musk and Grimes have changed the name of their baby to comply with a California law.
On Sunday May 24, Grimes revealed through an interaction on her instagram post that her baby’s original name, X Æ A-12 is now X Æ A-Xii.
California’s birth registration handbook clearly states that baby names can only include the 26 alphabetical characters of the english language, with the exception of hyphens or apostrophes in the case of names like O’Callahan or Thomas-Anderson. It also states that the regulation excludes numeric characters or marks used to denote pronunciation.
Grimes, seemingly unbothered by the need for the change commented on her post, saying:
“Roman Numerals. Looks better tbh.”
When asked about the pronunciation of the baby’s name, Elon Musk has been quoted saying:
“It’s just X, the letter X, and then the Æ is pronounced ‘Ash’ and then A-12 is my contribution…Archangel 12, the precursor to the SR-71. Coolest plane ever. It’s true.”
