Two men from Portland, Oregon, were found dead in Washington state after going missing during a search for Sasquatch, local officials announced. The men, aged 37 and 59, were reported missing on Christmas Day after failing to return from their expedition in Skamania County’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
A search effort involving over 60 people led to the discovery of their vehicle near Willard, Washington, and later their bodies in a heavily wooded area. The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office stated that the men likely died from exposure due to harsh weather conditions and inadequate preparation. Snow, freezing temperatures, and high water levels complicated the search and rescue operation.
Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot, is a legendary creature often associated with the Pacific Northwest. Skamania County, where the men were searching, has a unique law protecting Bigfoot, imposing fines and potential jail time for harming the creature. Despite widespread skepticism, more than 700 Bigfoot sightings have been reported in Washington state, fueling continued interest in the legend.
