$2.8B Settlement Will Reshape College Sports Forever
Written by Site Hub on June 13, 2025
A landmark $2.8 billion antitrust settlement is set to revolutionize college athletics by allowing schools to directly compensate athletes for the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL). The deal ends decades of NCAA amateurism, allocating up to $20.5 million per school in Year 1. Back pay will also be distributed to athletes who played between 2016–2024. The settlement introduces a new regulatory body to monitor compliance and ensure market-value compensation. While scholarships remain, concerns about equity, Olympic sports, and Title IX persist.
