10-Year-Old Farmer Awarded Full-Ride Scholarship for Agriculture
Written by Site Hub on September 15, 2025
Kendall Rae Johnson, the nation’s youngest certified farmer, earned a full-ride scholarship to South Carolina State University—recognition typically reserved for athletes—after turning a backyard plot into a thriving project and serving as a USDA National Urban Agriculture Youth Ambassador. The South Fulton, Georgia fifth grader began growing at age six and now cultivates produce, tends animals, and leads her family’s farming efforts. University president Alexander Conyers dubbed her an “ag scholar,” covering tuition, fees, and room and board. Kendall dreams of expanding to a 100-acre farm with longhorn cattle and poultry, while inspiring other kids to pursue agriculture and apply for youth scholarships. Her message is simple and contagious: keep growing, keep going, and “you do you”—proof that early passion, mentorship, and institutional support can seed lifelong opportunity.
