Whoopi Goldberg celebrated the 30th anniversary of “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” by reuniting the film’s cast on “The View.” This special event included not only her adult co-stars like Kathy Najimy but also many of the kid actors from the movie’s choir scenes. Together, they recreated the iconic “Oh Happy Day” and “Joyful, Joyful” performances.
Ryan Toby, who played Ahmal in the film, returned to sing “Oh Happy Day” with Goldberg. The “Joyful, Joyful” performance featured Tanya Trotter filling in for Lauryn Hill, who played Rita Louise Watson in the movie. Goldberg became emotional after the reunion performance.
Other cast members present included Wendy Makkena, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and many of the original kid actors. Jennifer Love Hewitt, who couldn’t attend in person, sent a video message recalling her experience on the film as one of the best moments of her life.
Goldberg highlighted the film’s lasting impact, noting how audiences of all ages resonate with the characters. She also expressed her ongoing interest in making “Sister Act 3,” mentioning potential collaborations with Keke Palmer, Lizzo, and Tyler Perry.
