Webster’s Hegedorn’s Upcoming Closure

Many local shoppers are saddened by the news of Hegedorn’s closure. About 120 employees will lose their jobs when they close at the end of June. The store has been a pillar in the Webster community since Bruce Hegedorn opened it in 1953.
Store manager Jon Gonzalez, the grandson of the store’s founder, said competition as well as the cost of running the grocery store came to be too much. Gonzalez stated: “It’s just a very difficult business to be in right now. You have a ton of competition for us. We have a couple of Wegmans right around us within a couple of miles, you’ve got an Aldi, a Walmart, a Target. We are loaded with competition, so it’s fierce.”
