Wake Up Club Listeners Chime In On Recent Uptick In Violence In Rochester

Written by on April 30, 2021

We had a good, honest, and real discussion today on the Wake Up Club with myself, DJ Sight, Tariq, and listeners a.k.a. Frontliners. We talked about the violence affecting our community. The reason we opened the discussion is the video of the little girl in the middle of a shooting in a corner store.

Along with that video RCSD Superintendant, Leslie Meyers-Small also addressed the violence affecting children attending schools in the city. Because of the recent uptick in violence with young people and especially teens we wanted to approach the conversation differently. And that is what took place on the Watercooler.

Small steps lead to bigger things. The discussion this morning was a start and understanding we have to get rid of the excuses is a big move forward. We must no longer use poverty and “the system is set up so we can fail” as an excuse for bad behavior. Poverty does not decide to pick up a gun and go kill someone. The decision to take another person’s life is on that individual who pulls the trigger.

Here are some of the texts from this morning’s Watercooler discussion:

Parents responsibility is to help their kids to be self-reliant, respectful, and self-controlled. Primary responsibility for discipline rests with the parent(s) If the parents/caregivers failed the jails/prisons will take over the parenting. If parents were held accountable for their kids, believe it would be less nonsense with these kids. If men could give birth it would be less unwanted kids running around acting like wild creatures.

Parents need to step up to the plate and be the parent that these kids so desperately need to guide them, love them and protect them sorry for the late response.

I’d like to know where are the black lives matter people now there’s a lot of black on black crime that doesn’t make any sense a lot of leaders you don’t see them until they get dressed up and come on TV so I would like to know where are they now talk about police brutality I want to know why they don’t try to do something about black on black crime black lives do matter.

There is a complexity of issues that need to be addressed. Bad behavior is taught. Generational dysfunction is real. Those who don’t know how to live a “healthy life” can’t teach it. We need to be proactive and not reactive in our community. It starts with us working on ourselves first.

The problem in our community is NOBODY wants to be held accountable. The parents think everything is “cute” they’re dressing their daughters like grown women allowing them to wear weaves and acrylic nails, trying to be their friend instead of the parent & then wonder why the girls are growing up so grown & fast. They’re being exploited! Then the sons are growing up without fathers or role models. Parents are benefitting from their illegal activities instead of setting them straight. & they’re afraid to give that good old fashion butt whooping! Don’t kill em but some just need a good old spanking, it starts from young! They dress their 2 year olds like grown men with gold chains and flashing money and then wonder why they grow up with a lust for quick cash. IT’S BECAUSE YOU RAISED THEM THAT WAY!

It starts at home and it starts EARLY. Nothing we can do now but report what we see and pray for the next generation.

What are your thoughts or solutions? Remember leave the excuses out!
