Virtual resources available for people to celebrate Earth Day

Written by on April 22, 2020

A lot of people are searching for silver linings during the SARS-CoV-2 crisis. This earth day, one silver lining that everyone can appreciate is the air and sky quality changes. With fewer cars on the road and fewer factories pumping out the byproducts of fossil fuels and other pollutants, people in many areas of the world have seen drastic changes in their skies, such as cleaner air and clearer views.

Another silver lining is that people don’t have to leave their homes to celebrate Earth Day. In fact, staying home reduces vehicle exhaust emissions. Around the world, event organizers and others have prepared a wide range of virtual education tools and events.

For the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, the Earth Day Network has chosen “Climate Change” as its theme. At EarthDay.org, site visitors can find science and education toolkits, at-home activities, a global digital events locator, and information about citizen science and other volunteer opportunities. At EarthChallenge2020.EarthDay.org, people can find links to an engagement app and information about events, including a global clean-up challenge and citizen science efforts. NASA is also offering Earth Day resources at NASA.gov/content/earth-day-2020, including activities, important data about the planet and videos.
