Tyler, the Creator surprised fans on Christmas Day with a freestyle over Kendrick Lamar and Dody6’s track “Hey Now” from Kendrick’s latest album, GNX. Accompanied by a video, Tyler was seen donning his signature Chromakopia mask while dancing, skating around Hawthorne, California, and hanging out with friends Jasper Dolphin, Taco Bennett, and Lionel Boyce.
The freestyle reflects Tyler’s longstanding friendship with Kendrick, whom he co-headlined with at the 2023 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. Tyler also joined Kendrick for a performance during The Pop Out concert on Juneteenth, despite being in the middle of recording his Chromakopia album.
Reflecting on the event, Tyler told Billboard: “I wasn’t even supposed to go — I was in Atlanta working on this album. But I landed that morning and couldn’t miss this s–t.” Tyler’s freestyle is another example of his dynamic artistry and camaraderie within the hip-hop community.
