Tops Workers Union Provides Counseling for Buffalo Employees

Written by on May 20, 2022

Any employee who was working inside the Tops supermarket in Buffalo when the mass shooting occurred now has access to grief counselors provided by the United Food and Commercial Workers Local One union.

Frank DeRiso, president of UFCW Local One, stated: “You hear some of the stories of what these people witnessed and what they had to view on their way out of the store, it’s just horrific. I don’t know how any of them, seeing what they had to see, its going to take a long time for them to heal. Which is why we have the counselors there 24 hours if need be…We have trained military people who are warriors that come back with PTSD, can you imagine a normal cashier, produce clerk, meat cutter? They didn’t sign up to be in a war zone and that’s where they were at on Saturday.”
