In Casa Grande, Arizona on April 27th, a bounce house was swept up by a strong gust of wind, resulting in the death of a two-year-old toddler, Bodhi Naaf. Bodhi, the son of Phoenix firefighter Karl Naaf, was one of the children inside the bounce house when it went airborne and landed in a neighboring lot. While several children were in the bounce house at the time, only Bodhi and another child were hospitalized. The other child survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as a tragic accident and is currently investigating whether the bounce house was properly secured, given that wind speeds exceeded 20 mph at the time. This event has raised concerns about the safety measures for bounce houses, as the US Consumer Product Safety Commission advises that they should be adequately staked and anchored. The local community and firefighter union have shown support for the Naaf family, who are expecting another child soon, through a successful GoFundMe campaign that exceeded its financial goal.
