R&B singer who was best known for his 1973 anti-war song, “Why Can’t We Live Together,” Timmy Thomas, has passed away at age 77. Thomas’ family confirmed his death on Facebook, stating: “With appreciation and gratitude, the family extends a thank you for the prayers, support, precious words and other expressions of love and kindness during this time.” The cause of death and exact date has not been revealed.

After Thomas’ hit was released, Drake came and gave it a modernized feel as he sampled the track “Why Can’t We Live Together” on his “Hotline Bling.” When hearing Hotline Bling, Thomas stated: “I was very proud to listen to what he had done with it. Even though he had changed the message that I had…But what it does is it gives me a chance for my name to be back out there and gives me a chance to say something to the young people again.”
