‘The worst I’ve seen it’: Recently retired investigator speaks out about homicide rates in Rochester

Written by on July 2, 2021

The violence in Rochester is on the rise and the police department’s Major Crimes Unit is working around the clock.

A retired Major Crimes Unit investigator, John Brennan, says team members are working 50 to 80 hours a week.

Brennan stated:

“The homicide rate is out of control, it’s the worst I have seen it.”

He went on to say:

“There’s days where a homicide investigator will get called in and maybe if he’s lucky, he will go home for a couple hours of sleep and comes right back. It’s not unheard of being at the office for two or three days.”

Brennan explained that the team is also experiencing a shortage which is making the investigations even harder.
