THE SPIRIT OF ROCHESTER

Rochester Summer Soul Music Festival, although with the change of it’s name in past years, has been one of the most impactful events in Rochester’s recent entertainment history.
I can remember back when the show was in Genesee Valley Park and so many major artists were performing, it had to be a two-day event. People had lawn chairs, there were hot dog vendors, Etc. It was just a great time to be out in the summer.
The one event that stands out for me was the year Common and Boyz II Men came to perform. I recall Common doing a freestyle rap making reference to multiple landmarks in Rochester that only people who live here would know about. That freestyle gave me a whole new understanding of the level of his talent. I figured, he must do this in every city he goes to. Wow!! Then, to take it even further, it began to rain pretty hard and Boyz II Men performed through the shower. These are true performers. Don’t miss when they come through!
