The Protecting Lawful Streaming Act

As part of the Covid-19 stimulus bill, there’s a new law going into effect that punishes pirate streamers with up to 10 years of imprisonment. This new law called the “Protecting Lawful Streaming Act” doesn’t go after casual internet users. It primarily focuses on commercially profitable online streaming services that make money from illegal streams of copyrighted material.
The confusion tends to be whether or not to stream when you think it may be an illegally accessible form of content.
According to CNN, the law does specify that it does not apply to people “who access pirated streams or unwittingly stream unauthorized copies of copyrighted works”.
