The Grammys’ voting body is more diverse, with 66% new members.

The Grammy Awards have faced criticism in the past for a lack of diversity in recognizing artists of color, women, and genres like rap and R&B. To address this, the Recording Academy has transformed its voting body, adding over 8,700 new members since 2019, with 66% of current voters being new. This includes an addition of more than 3,000 female voting members, surpassing the Academy’s 2025 goal. The Academy has also seen significant growth in representation from underrepresented racial groups, including a 100% increase in AAPI voters and a 90% increase in Black voters.
The Academy is committed to further diversifying its membership to better reflect the evolving music industry, while ensuring that members actively contribute to the music world. Despite progress, Academy President Harvey Mason Jr. acknowledges that more work remains to achieve true representation.
