THE BACKWARDS LAW
Written by Atu on January 22, 2020
Alan Watts was a British writer who took Eastern philosophy and translated it for the Western world.
He once wrote, “wanting a positive experience is a negative experience; accepting a negative experience is a positive experience”. This was referred to as ‘The Backwards Law’ – the idea that the more you pursue feeling better all the time, the less satisfied you become. Pursuing something reinforces the fact that you lack it in the first place.
The more you desperately want to be rich, the more poor and unworthy you feel, regardless of how much money you make. The more you desperately want to be desired, the uglier you come to see yourself, regardless of your actual physical appearance.
There’s more and it all makes sense but, sounds like some good ol’ brainwashing to me?. Be mindful of your own intake! Watch what you eat and who you surround yourself with. Remember, much of what you consume was once just someone else’s idea… like this blog ??
