Breonna Taylor’s family and allies spoke out for the first time since the Kentucky Grand Jury failed to charge anyone in her death.
The hour long press conference was full of anger, hurt, disappointment in the legal system.
Breonna’s mother was too choked up to speak at the press conference but her sister read her statement. Warning, it is a tear jerker.
“I never had faith in Daniel Cameron to begin with.
I was reassured Wednesday of why I have no faith in the legal system, in the police, in the law.
They are not made to protect us Black and brown people.”
Attorneys Ben Crump and Lonita Baker posed some strong questions for the State Attorney General and Special Prosecutor Daniel Cameron about which facts he did and did not present to the Grand Jury. Crump also pointed out that the charges of wanton endangerment only applied to the bullets that went into the white neighbor’s apartment, not the black neighbor’s unit.
But the strongest words came from activist Tamika Mallory. She likened Daniel Cameron to the Black Africans who helped enslave other Black people on the slave ships over 400 years ago.
