Strong Memorial Hospital Lands $50 Million From NYS To Expand

Written by on March 1, 2023

Yesterday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Strong Memorial Hospital will receive $50 million from New York State to help Strong triple the size of its emergency department. The expansion includes the creation a nine-story bed tower for inpatient care, set to be complete in 2027, along with more than 100 private inpatient rooms.

Kathleen Parrinello, Strong’s chief operating officer, stated: “We’ve been an undersized space for a number of years. Our ED was initially built for 60,000 patients. We’re now seeing 110,000 patients a year. I think it’s no secret in our city that our emergency department every day is overcrowded, so this is very important for our physicians and our nurses, and all of our healthcare workers who work in the ED to have a better, more modern facility to work in.”
