Stay Safe! Rise in Respiratory Illnesses Among Kids

‘Tis the season of allergies, colds, the flu, covid, and all of the in-betweens. Now, local doctors say they’re seeing a rise in respiratory illnesses in children — and it’s happening earlier than usual this year. Doctors say a lack of masking is a contributing factor.
Dr. Colleen Markevicz, a pediatric emergency medicine specialist with Rochester Regional Health, stated: “A lot of respiratory illnesses where the kids are testing negative for COVID, and so families are like ‘Yes, it’s not COVID!’ and they’re still getting really sick. It’s significantly earlier than we’re used to seeing it.”
