States Look to Lift Mask Mandates in Schools

Yesterday, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced that he will be lifting the statewide school mask mandate on March 7 since there is a drop in COVID-19 infections. According to Murphy, the drop in COVID-19 infections brings new pressure on government officials to ease off restrictions amid public frustration and fatigue with the pandemic. He stated: “We are not going to manage COVID to zero. We have to learn how to live with COVID as we move from a pandemic to an endemic phase of this virus.”
So where does New York stand? As of right now, the mask mandate is still in place until February 10th. Governor Kathy Hochul stated that she plans to make an announcement on Wednesday, February 9th on the future mask mandate. Governor Hochul will continue to review the data before making any decisions.
