Southern States See Increased Corona Cases In Young People

Written by on June 22, 2020

According to some officials in southern states, people under 30 have been making up a majority of positive COVID-19 cases.

States like Florida, South Carolina, and Texas have been seeing increased numbers of cases in this demographic and have attributed them to pre mature reopening.  Others are saying the results are coming in because testing has increased, but one Mississippi health official called adherence to social distancing over the past weeks “overwhelmingly disappointing.”

Studies have shown that coronavirus affects older people and those with pre existing health problems, according to data from the Center for Disease Control. The median age of positive cases was 48.

With this new information, the CDC has been reviewing their policies about the public health benefits of masks, and will soon make an updated recommendation.
