Written by on September 18, 2020

Seneca Zoo has announced that they have acquired a new red panda named “Willie” a year to the date after “Blaze” died of a respiratory infection.

He will be keeping his younger mate Starlight warm this winter in the Cold Asia Exhibit that began in 2018 and “Has quickly become a favorite,” according to Monroe County Executive Adam Bello.

Willie was born at the Greenville Zoo in South Carolina and is named after country singer Willie Nelson.

Red pandas are native to the Himalaya Mountains and are considered to be an endangered species.
