Section V High Risk Winter Sports To Resume On Feb 1

This week, Section V announced that high risk winter sports can resume practice on Feb 1st and all wrestling events can begin a week later. They tweeted:
“We have received approval from all necessary local departments of health and all have provided approval for High-Risk Sports. As anticipated some Local DOH’s have provided more restrictive guidance and those school’s are aware and will need to follow. #SectionV #HighRiskSports”
The season will be shorter, with sectionals beginning on March 6th.
Coaches and staff are on board for the four week season but the postseason structure is grounds for disagreement. Section Five Executive Director Kathy Hoyt commented, saying:
“This is not an ideal situation,” Hoyt said. “We’re gonna try to make the best of a non-ideal situation and get kids re-engaged in physical activity and team and coach and peer relationships.”
