School No. 8 Expands Family Support Center

Amidst the unpredicted rise of violence in Rochester, the Rochester City School District is expanding its student-family support center at School No. 8. This expansion is to help families get through what could be some of their worst days. The current center has been around for several years, offering food, clothing, and support for those who need it. With additional funding from a state grant that will provide $1.7 million over five years, this will help further the center’s efforts.
Carly Jelsma, a social worker at the center stated; “There’s been a lot more difficulty in terms of safety and security. It has been there, but we’d all agree it has intensified. What’s most shocking is the complexity and level of need. I think we’ll always find that because there’s no simple solution to a problem.”
