After taking office just only a few days ago, Rochester Mayor James Smith is in quarantine after testing positive for the COVID-19. Smith has been working from his apartment in the Park Avenue neighborhood since testing. Smith is vaccinated and just recently received his booster shot. Mayor James Smith was originally the city’s deputy mayor. He took office after former Mayor Lovely Warren resigned, as part of a plea agreement to resolve campaign finance fraud and other criminal charges against her. The newly elected Mayor, Malik Evans, will take office on January 1st.

When discussing his health, Smith stated: “My doctor believes very strongly that my outcome is largely due in fact to having been vaccinated, and I am grateful for that. It’s important that everyone realize this is a real thing, and it’s serious.”
