Rochester’s Conkey Cruisers In Hawaii Aerospace Camp

Conkey Cruisers was extended an opportunity to bring five youth to the Organization Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) Ace Academy in Honolulu next month. OBAP’s Aerospace Career Education (ACE) Academy provides middle and high school youth with exposure to opportunities in aerospace through week-long summer academies. Endorsed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), OBAP has played a leading role in establishing ACE Academies nationwide to introduce, educate and guide diverse students towards careers in aerospace. Thank you for your support of Conkey Cruisers’ vision to empower families to pursue healthy and happy lifestyles. My team at Conkey Cruisers has been working diligently to roll out Wheels-Up. Wheels-Up is a new innovative, engaging health equity initiative that uses aerospace education to lead youth to gainful employment. Research suggests that education is a fundamental social determinant of health. As you know, community-based organizations like Conkey Cruisers close gaps in educational outcomes between low-income or racial and ethnic minority populations, and higher-income or majority populations are much needed to promote health equity. The Wheels-Up curriculum is tailored to provide exposure to the history of aviation, fundamentals of aerodynamics, air traffic control procedures, aerospace technologies and introductions to careers in Aerospace. Equipped with these skills, young people can prepare for careers in aerospace that far exceed what employees in other fields receive in pay and benefits.
