Rochester Westside Business Leaders “Do a Little Time” to Help Families Fighting Muscle Disease
Written by wdkxwp on February 1, 2016
WHERE: Bar Louie at Greece Ridge Mall
WHEN: March 3, 2016
WHAT: Business and community leaders from the Rochester Westside area will “do a little time and a lot of good” to help save and improve the lives of people fighting muscular dystrophy and related life-threatening diseases at the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Lock-Up fundraising event.
WHO: Participants, also known as “Jailbirds,” including Mark Assini, Town of Gates Manager & Kimberle Ward, Superintendent of Gates Chili Schools will be locked up for one hour as they attempt to raise “bail” by encouraging friends, family, and co-workers to make a contribution to directly benefit MDA families.
WHY: MDA’s Lock-Up theme symbolizes the decreased mobility and independence people living with muscle disease experience when their muscles stop working. Lock-Up participants are “locked up” for one hour, but for the people MDA serves, the loss of mobility — and the limitations on freedom and independence that it can cause — are for life. The “bail” money raised helps MDA create a world free from the harmful effects of neuromuscular disease.
Dollars raised also help support MDA’s life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and clinics, including the MDA Clinic at Strong Hospital. They also make MDA summer camp possible so kids with muscle disease can enjoy “the best week of the year” at Rotary Sunshine Campus in Rush, New York.
