This past Saturday, Rochester hosted a Stop Asian/Asian American and Pacific Islander Hate rally at the Maplewood Family YMCA. This rally was to recognize the dozens of hate crimes that have increased throughout the nation.

Bijaya Khadka, who is the founding chair of the New Americans Advisory Council said “We’re just here to stand together and give a message to the people who have so much hate in their heart, saying that we are one people. We may look different, we may talk different, but we are Americans. We came here to live peacefully and in harmony.”

Advocates have stated there has been an increasing number of hate crimes, about a 150% increase. They are calling on congress to pass legislation in response to the ongoing increase in violence.
