Written by on December 23, 2020

The Rochester police officer that was shot on Hauge St. Tuesday morning is now recovering at home. The officer is a 15 year veteran of the Rochester Police Department. The man who shot the officer is in custody.

54-year-old James Hunter is the suspect and he is a lifetime parolee who has been in and out of prison since 1983. His last contact with police was back in 2019 where he injured another officer with a vehicle. This incident was during a traffic stop in Irondequoit where he drove off as officers approached the car. Hunter escaped but hit an officer as he drove off.

He has now been charged for that incident back in 2019. No charges have been filed in the shooting of the officer Tuesday but authorities said there will be charges added once the investigation is complete.

Hunter is a 4-time convicted felon.
