It has been reported that Rochester is one of the worst cities for African Americans to live in America, citing segregation as the main source of the disparity.

According to a study conducted by 24/7 Wall St., which sites data from the 2016 census, Rochester ranks #14 in segregation.  African Americans make an average of $28,681 a year, 48% less than the average white household income. Furthermore, the unemployment rate among whites in Rochester is only 5.4% compared to African Americans who are unemployed at a rate of 16.3%, more than a 10% gap!

Samantha Miles of 13WHAM news reports, “Local activists say segregation is nothing new, but this new ranking reveals an urgent need for change… They hope this new data serves as proof that change is needed in Rochester.”

Other cities joining Rochester on the list include, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and the city of Waterloo, Iowa which ranks at the top of the list.
