Rochester Lilac festival cancelled, but pop-up shop remains

Written by on May 7, 2020

Many people from in or around Rochester look forward to the Lilac Festival which is held annually in May every year. Each year the festival attracts around 500,000 to Highland Park to enjoy music, food, and of course, the beautiful flowers in Rochester. The event is free to attend, and over 500 variations of lilac are usually on display.

This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the festival will not take place on the 8th-17th May as planned, leaving many feeling disappointed. Jeff Springut, the producer of the Rochester Lilac Festival, plans to reschedule the event and said “at this time it is premature to comment on who may be performing, as dates for any event as well as performer schedules are uncertain…That being said, many of the bands have expressed a desire to play at a rescheduled event.”

Fans of the festival need not be too upset, as Springut has announced there will be a pop-up shop for the Rochester community to get their lilac fix. Rochester residents can safely purchase Lilac Festival merchandise from the pop-up shop which will be open on the 8th-10th May and the 15th-17th May in the Distillery Restaurant parking lot.
