Rochester Creates Civilian Interview Panel to Hire Officers

Written by on November 19, 2021

Soon-to-be former Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren announced a new initiative yesterday in the hopes of advancing police reform. Their new initiative is called the Civilian Public Safety Interview Panel, created by Rev. Lewis Stewart of United Christian Leadership Ministry. Stewart’s idea stems from the response to the Governor’s Executive Order 203, where last summer former Governor Cuomo signed an order which requires each local government across the state to adopt a policing reform plan.

Warren stated: “We believe that any chief would be taking the recommendations very seriously and there would have to be some very good reasons as to why the chief wants to move a candidate forward when the community is not in favor of it. “At the end of the day, we can’t regulate morality. If anyone decides to pick up a gun and fire it, what we can do is hold them accountable.”
