Rochester City School District to Receive Funding for Afterschool Programs

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Wednesday that the Rochester City School District would be receiving state funding in the amount of $136,000 from the $10 million Empire State After School Program Award. These funds will be provided by the Urban League of Rochester.
Funding like this is essential for schools because after school programs not only help students to stay on track, but they also give them a productive and poetic environment to spend time after school. Research has shown that students who are involved in after school care and programs are more likely to have better attendance and academic achievement, and are not as likely to be engaged in harmful behavior.
The Urban League of Rochester was founded in 1965 and was created in order to address the needs of the poor and minority citizens that live in Rochester and the surrounding areas. Today, the League has more than 30 programs that assist with youth services, disability services, economic development, education, business development services, family and children services, and more. Thousands of individuals receive help from the programs offered by the Urban League of Rochester annually.
