ROC the Riverway Weekend

ROC the Riverway weekend kicked off with the Fall Salmon Run and tours of the Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse yesterday. To celebrate ROC the Riverway, city leaders announced plans for the North Star Commons, where the site offers a new gathering space and is named after The North Star, the anti-slavery newspaper first published by abolitionist Frederick Douglass in Rochester in 1947.
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren stated: “From the abundant farms of the Genesee Valley to the industrial heritage of the city, the Genesee River has defined who we are and how our community developed. During ROC the Riverway Weekend, the City of Rochester is proud to once again join with our numerous community partners to celebrate the Genesee and its lasting legacy in our region. I invite everyone to get out and get some fresh air, forget for a minute about the challenges we face, and experience our history and future.”
