Retailers discover new opportunity at RetailNewYork website

Written by on April 27, 2020

Retailers throughout the country are having difficulty reaching their customers because of non-essential business closures. As noted by NBC WHEC News 10 on Saturday, April 18, the Retail Council of New York State has come up with an online solution to drive traffic to retailer websites. Known as “RetailNewYork,” a website provides a list of member retailers throughout the region who are still accepting orders for their products and services during the pandemic.

Some consumers don’t realize that their favorite brick-and-mortar stores are still selling products and services over the phone and online. New York merchants who boarded up their shop windows have compounded this problem. As explained by Inside Hook on Friday, retailers who board up their shops typically do so to show that they’re not accepting offline foot traffic and to deter thieves. Yet, this makes a store look like it has closed everywhere entirely. Additionally, essential businesses nearby, such as small grocers and restaurants, often feel the negative impact because shoppers then believe that every business on a particular street is closed and not accepting orders.

The RetailNewYork website acts like a “Yellow Pages” directory and features a wide range of categories. Its tagline is that “Main St. is right here at RetailNewYork.” Categories include “Arts & Crafts,” “Bakery & Cafe,” “Business Services,” “Country Store,” “Home Decor,” “Meat Markets,” “Pet Supplies,” and “Woodworking & Lumber.” Retailers can sign up for a listing on the “List Your Business With Us!” page at http://retailnewyork.com/241-2/.
