RCSD Teachers Question New CDC Masking Guidance
Written by Site Hub on July 12, 2021
Over the weekend, in relaxing Covid guidelines, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that vaccinated teachers and students don’t need to wear masks inside school buildings. This guidance is only a recommendation, meaning that this leaves the final decisions up to the state, local health departments and school districts. While many are excited to see the world open back up again, many Rochester City School District teachers are wondering how it will be enforced in classrooms.
RCSD Teacher, Rakia Hardaway stated; “We have more questions than answers at this point…I know I’ve run into a few people who have not been wearing masks and I said, ‘Oh, you got vaccinated?’, and they’re like, ‘No, but we don’t have to wear masks’, and so that just really, it really does put me in fear. We have a lot of teenagers that are not vaccinated and if we’re saying that they’re basically getting to choose whether or not they’re going to wear their masks like how is that going to affect us? What is the plan for if our rates become high again? We don’t want to shut down.”
