Protests Outside URMC Rally Against Vaccine Mandates

Yesterday, protesters gathered outside the University of Rochester Medical Center rallying against mandatory COVID-19 vaccines. Just last week, URMC made the announcement that all employees must receive at least one dose of the vaccine by Sept. 27, and information related to requesting an exemption would be provided to employees soon.

Ashley, a nurse who was present at Monday’s protest, stated: “Even if you’re vaccinated, it’s going to affect you because you’re not going to have healthcare workers to provide care for you for everything else aside from COVID, and everyone should be worried about that.”

Also last week, the FDA fully approved Pfizer’s COVID vaccine. University President Sara Mangelsdorf stated: “(W)e believe it is in the best interests of the health and safety of our entire university community to ensure that faculty and staff join with our students, who are already required to be vaccinated.”
