President Joe Biden Defends American And Coalition Personnel With Airstrikes In Syria

After a rocket strike against an airport in Erbil, Syria killed a civilian contractor and injured n american solider, President Joe Biden authorized airstrikes that targeted the Iran – backed militias that were responsible for carrying out the attack.

The airstrikes targeted a series of buildings at an unofficial crossing location on the Syria-Iraq border that is frequently used to smuggle weapons and personnel into Syria. The warplanes dropped 7, 500lb bombs and decimated the structure.

John F. Kirby, the Pentagon Press Secretary gave a statement regarding the attack, saying that the attacks:

“specifically destroyed multiple facilities located at a border control point used by a number of Iranian-backed militia troops, including Kataib Hezbollah and Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada. This proportionate military response was conducted together with diplomatic measures, including consultation with coalition partners,” he added. “The operation sends an unambiguous message: President Biden will act to protect American and coalition personnel.”
